I am facing my first endometriosis excision surgery within the next couple of months. I am also doing a hysterectomy as well. Ovaries staying.
As expected, I have all sorts of questions and am very nervous about it! If anyone can provide things that helped them with this surgery that would be helpful. Am really nervous about the gas pain, as well as the bloating during recovery and being bed written for a while!
I am also having excision surgery with hysterectomy (uterus only). Any info, pointers, welcome. Scheduled for Aug, but hoping to get moved up to July .
I had my first surgery for Endo 2 days ago. While I opted not to have the hysto (which turned out to be the right decision for me) I still feel like I have a bowling ball from the gas and inflammation. It will be very uncomfortable to sleep your first night for sure. If you have a body pillow and are a side sleeper it will help to support you. I use a heating pad as well. My doctor (who is amazing) told me to stick to the pain meds on the schedule she gave me and that definitely helped. Walking when you have energy and only for the energy you have helps to reduce the gas for sure. I get very nauseous very easily (this is normal for me in the daily) and told my anesthesiologist this so he gave me extra meds for that. Listen to your body and what you need. Comfy clothes are a must. The first few days are rough but you’re making the right decision! Happy to answer any questions. I know mine was slightly different because I didn’t do the hysto. But here to help as I can.
Mine is in 8 days! Hyst and excision. I’m so nervous but so ready to hopefully have a better quality of life. I will definitely keep you posted after mine on what was helpful
Thank you tracy
Yes. Agreed on the gas they pump you with. That was rough for the first few days. It got stuck up under my ribs… ouch! And one night I woke up and had sharp pain from the gas inhaling and exhaling. I knew it was from that but still in the moment felt like “I can’t breath”. And the walking helped me too. Not too far, and like you said as it feels good for you , not when you’re exhausted. I would just walk down the hall, but i definitely found that to help me.
My abdominal muscles are feeling much better now. I am getting flashes of sharper localized pain. I feel like it’s from the insidious points, but it’s also other places in my abdomen.
I just completed the lidocaine injections into my pelvis for nerve and muscle pain with Pelvic Rehabilitation medicine in Atlanta a few days before my surgery.
