Massive Hormonal Changes Post Op

I’m a year post op from my surgery and I was hit with massive hormonal changes. I’ve been told this tends to happen to Endo patients and it can occur that far out.

I was absolutely terrified when it hit me, I had no idea what was happening to me and I felt like I was going crazy. It’s similar to Perimenopause symptoms. I did not have my ovaries removed during surgery. When I saw a gyno that my surgeon suggested to see, she said she sees this a lot with Endo patients.

One, I want to know why this is NOT talked about. And two, if anyone else experienced this and what helped?

I’m seeking a hormone specialist at the end of the month to see what’s going on. Will update after my appointment.

Hello . I have been “diagnosed “ with endo for years with many surgeries. I’m am soon to turn 49- and started to experience symptoms around 10 years ago when I got my tubes tied. It wasn’t until I recently agreed (never wanted to but the pain had reduced my quality of life I didn’t fell like I had any other options) to have a total hysterectomy and the pain was still there- as well as gastrointestinal issues. It wasn’t until I went to Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicane (they have locations all over) that I be to able educated in the pelvic muscle nerves around my pelvic wall that are affected from endo. They are an amazing treatment center. I have been on a treatment plan with them since March this year and for the first time I started to see results AND relief from the pain.

I’m so disappointed that I went thru so many surgeries and medicine that was completely unnecessary. I feel your frustration. Try and see if you can find a pelvic floor specialist in your area. They are very few in my area- I drive almost 45 minutes once a week, but so worth it.
I go weekly for lidocaine injections that are injected directly to the pelvic floor nerves to help them relax.
My doctor has my on nightly valium suppository to help me sleep thru the night (bladder inconstancy also an issue- and now resolved!) and different topical cream to apply directly to pain as needed as well as suppository muscle relaxer when needed. Testosterone/estrogen cream. And 400 of magnesium. As well as pelvic floor physical therapy once a week. This has helped also with my Gasto issues since I’m not taking all sorts of medications by mouth.

I know it sounds like a lot, but the relief from the pain has given me hope of a life with out pain….its worth it. Good luck and may God provide the answers you are looking for.

I hope this helps…

Just a quick not to add…l they have never confirmed I had endo with all the laparoscopic surgeries I had over the years. I had Adenomyosis which is another form of endo…

I just had surgery about 10 days ago. I have Endo and organs that were all stuck together. I had my uterus, cervics and tubes removed.
I know I still have surgery affecting my emotions. But I have been wondering for how long. And then in the future how my hormones could be affected

I completely get where you’re coming from! I had surgery back in late March of this year and now I am having to take an antidepressant and have been diagnosed with PMDD along with anxiety and depression. My psychiatrist said that often surgeries especially in this case “trips” a wire in the brain and causes these mental issues to occur along with the hormonal changes as well worsening things. I met with a hormonal specialist as well and my tests came back as my testosterone being a bit low so I will be seeking treatment for that most likely. Glad to know there’s others who have experienced similar things.

Yeah I’ve read just the stress of the surgery itself can temporarily shutdown the ovaries. But I guess if you do it in the window of time when perimenopause can begin, I think you can trigger it. But peri can start as early as your 30s. And my family history was all super young when they went through menopause like 36 and 42 (my mom and aunt are identical twins).

But my testosterone was SUPER low. I’ve been on it for 3 months with just recently in this past month, I increased my dose and I feel like my old self again emotionally thank god. I use the Bioidentical testosterone cream. Its great.
