IUD & Birth Control Options

Hi!

I’ve received a clinical diagnosis for both endometriosis and adenomyosis. What birth control methods do you use to control your symptoms for both or either, and what is your experience? I am experiencing severe clotting and pain during my periods, which my provider has atttributed to adeno, and debilitating ovulation pain that radiates to my back and hips, which she has attributed to endo.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I have both endo and adeno as well! I’m 21 and have had an iud and been on the shot, and have had many forms of the pill. I am on a new one now that my surgeon recommended after my surgery and i haven’t had any side effects. it’s also supposed to be a medication for the adeno so it’s a two in one. It’s called slynd

Thanks for your insight! I see that slynd works by suppressing ovulation. Were you having ovulation pain? I’m really interested in something to help with that AND possibly not getting a period

“I’ve been dealing with both adenomyosis and endometriosis for years. My periods were absolutely brutal — heavy clotting, cramping that left me doubled over — and ovulation felt like sharp knives radiating from my lower abdomen into my back and hips. My doctor suggested trying a continuous birth control pill, skipping the placebo week, and honestly, I was skeptical at first.

After a couple of months, I started noticing a difference. My periods became lighter and sometimes even stopped altogether, which was such a relief for the clotting. The mid-cycle pain during ovulation also became much more manageable because the pill suppressed ovulation. The side effects were mild for me — some mood swings at the beginning, but nothing unbearable.

I liked that it was reversible, so if it didn’t work, I could stop it easily. I know a hormonal IUD can be great for bleeding, but for me, I really needed something that also addressed ovulation pain, and the continuous pill seemed to hit both. It wasn’t a miracle overnight, and it took a few months to settle in, but overall, it made daily life so much more bearable.”
